How should I prepare for my bridal appointment?

You’ve booked your appointment, the date and time are set, now what?  In preparation for your bridal appointment gather together pictures of the gowns you like.  Try and narrow it down to a few different styles and keep your options open.  Something you see in a magazine may look great on the model wearing it, however it may not be the best fit for your body type.  Be open to suggestions from your stylist.

Make sure you are wearing a good bra, preferably a strapless one.  Bring the shoes you either plan to wear with your dress or ones of a similar height to get a better idea of what your dress will look like on the big day.

Plan to be at your appointment for at least one to two hours so plan your schedule accordingly.  Try and put your cell phone aside for the length of your appointment to allow you to focus completely on the task at hand and limit the number of interruptions you have during your time at the store.

Lastly, relax and enjoy.  Our staff are practiced professionals in the art of dressing you to look your best on your wedding day, by working together we will ensure you leave with the perfect dress!

Alterations

It is very rare for a client to walk in, try on a dress and have no alterations.  So, are alterations included in the cost of the dress.  The answer is usually, no.  Most alterations include an additional charge which will be discussed at your initial appointment when you find the dress or gown of your choice.

With most alterations two fittings are included in the fee, one for the initial pinning of the dress and the second appointment to try on after the alterations are complete.  This is not the time to go on a crash diet or an eating binge, as you want to avoid a third appointment for which you would be charged accordingly.

Keep in mind alterations are a must for most and allow for them when planning out your budget.

Leave your entourage at home

Getting married is exciting, for many it is a day they have dreamed of since they were a child.  We understand you want to share your big day with family and friends, bringing them all to your bridal appointment however is not always a good idea.

It is always a good idea to limit the number of people you bring to your initial appointment.  Usually a bride has an idea of what dress style she wants and what she wants to look like in it.  This vision does not always match your mothers, mother in law or your friends.  By choosing carefully who you bring and limiting the number of people you also limit the number of opinions you get and keep the stress to a minimum.  So leave the entourage at home, let them share in your wedding day instead.

The “B” word – Budget

Why is a budget important whenshopping for a wedding dress,  bridesmaid dresses or a prom dress?  A budget, known ahead of time by you and the stylist you are working with,  ensures you keep on track with what you can afford.  Lets face it, not all of us are in the position of having an unlimited budget.  Planning is important, knowing and staying within your limit will allow you to plan accordingly in other areas of your event.

One of the worst things that can happen is for a client to try on a dress over and above their pre-determined budget, for them to fall in love with it,  and have nothing else within their budget measure up.  Knowing ahead of time what you want to spend ensures we only show you dresses that are in or near your price range, eliminating the disappointment of finding something you cannot afford.

Make sure you or whoever is paying gives a realistic amount of what they want to spend, accessories and all, so there are no surprises when the appointment concludes.

How long?

One of the number one questions we are asked is how long will it take to get my gown…

Depending on the designer, the style of dress and the alterations, it can take months from the initial first visit to get your dress complete.  This being said it is important to plan in advance!  Give us a call to book an appointment, let us know what designers you love, what style of dress you are looking for and when your wedding day is, we will make sure your dress is fitted and ready for your big day!
